Garnet Valley Defense: This might seem like a cop-out, but the Jaguars’ defense earned its spot on this week’s list after what it did to Ridley last Thursday. The Jags displayed a relentless blitz, led by stud linebacker Tyler Shankle, defensive end Jesse Miceli (2.5 sacks), and defensive backs Frank White and Steve Palis, among other standouts. Sure, the Jags exploded for 42 points and 331 yards of total offense. But, in the end, this game will mostly be remembered for what the Jags did to disrupt quarterback Collin Wright and the Ridley offense all game long.

Vince Razzano & Mike Bruette, RBs, Garnet Valley: Razzano rushed for three touchdowns on 10 carries for 66 yards, while also taking a punt return 76 yards to the house. Bruette, meanwhile, led all players with 112 yards on 16 carries and two scores. Honorable mention goes to quarterback Christian Portale (12 carries, 78 yards). The Jags pounded out 297 yards on 51 carries, and through three weeks, are averaging a cool 292.6 yards.

Quran Mottenon, RB, Interboro:  Mottenon has shown flashes of becoming a top-flight tailback before, so consider what he did in the Bucs’ 53-21 beatdown of Prep Charter his coming out party. With his team in desperation mode following two losses to start the season, Mottenon went off for four TDs and 142 yards on 15 carries.

Charlie Carbin, QB, Springfield: Remember when the Cougars entered training camp with more questions than answers about who would run the team’s new-look, no-huddle offense? Yeah, well, not anymore. Carbin has solidified his role on the team. Only a sophomore, Carbin has been very solid through three games, and against Radnor, he was 15-for-26 for 202 yards and a pair of TD passes. (That performance earned him Central League QB MVP honors at Monday’s Delco Football Coaches Association meeting.) For the season, Carbin has completed 57.4 percent of his passes (31-for-54) for 381 yards and three touchdowns. The scary thing? He’s just getting started.

Jerry Lanier, RB, Academy Park: We’ll just reserve a spot for the county’s top running back in this space every week. The All-Delco actually had his least productive game — I can’t type the rest of this sentence with a straight face — of the season against Sun Valley, torching the Vanguards for “only” 174 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 carries. Lanier’s rushing totals after three weeks: 52 carries, 611 yards, six touchdowns: Can he keep it up Friday night when the Knights face Pennridge, one of the top Class AAAA programs in District One?
