Wednesday’s game between Bonner-Prendergast and Malvern Prep, scheduled for 4 o’clock at Malvern, was cancelled. There will be no make up.
With a mix of heavy rain and snow throughout Wednesday, there’s at least a chance that Thursday’s schedule could be altered.
However, as of 5 p.m., the three Thanksgiving morning games, all of which are played on grass fields, are as scheduled.
One idea worth considering is moving Ridley-Interboro and Haverford-Upper Darby to turf fields (i.e. the away team’s site). Would Interboro and UD feel cheated out of a home game? Sure. But would the quality improve? Absolutely..
Everyone who has ever been to Upper Darby after it’s rained the day before knows what to expect. It’s going to be a swamp.
The field at South Avenue Athletic Complex is a little better, but at the end of the day, neither Upper Darby or Interboro has a multi-million dollar draining system like the pros use.
If you’re worried about the quality suffering immensely, your concerns are justified.
Sun Valley and Chichester likely will have to just toughen it out, so to speak, on a slop field. But for Ridley-Interboro and Haverford-UD, there’s at least the option to move to a turf field. At this point, it almost makes too much sense
